So Grateful for Excellent Insurance!

Now that Annie has been home for a week, we are starting to get more settled in our new routines with her IV medication administration and weekly blood draws and lab work.  It was just a few days ago that I first looked more closely at the receipt of her bi-weekly IV supply delivery and was floored yet again at the cost of her care!

Just to give you an idea, right now Annie's medical care includes:

-2 IV antibiotics daily
-Central line IV supplies such as: tubing, pre-filled saline syringes, pre-filled heparin syringes, alcohol prep pads, lumen caps, rubber gloves, a new central line kit each week, and a syringe pump rental
-11 other regular prescription medications
-feeding tubes and g-buttons, feeding pump rental, and other feeding supplies and specialty formula
-diapers, chux pads, and gloves
-CPAP rental and supplies
-suction machine and suction supplies
-customized wheelchair, bath chair, and other medical equipment
-eye-gaze communication computer
-weekly home heath nursing care for blood draws and central IV line care
-weekly in-home nursing care for date nights

In addition to all of this, over the past 12 years Annie has received (and still frequently receives) numerous MRIs, CT scans, sonograms and other radiology testing, hospitalizations, ER visits, almost 2 dozen surgeries, and countless doctor and therapy appointments, and other medical testing and equipment (multiple standers and wheelchairs).

It's baffling and humbling to consider all these costs, but whenever we get statements from our health insurance, we become incredibly grateful for good insurance.  There's no way we could survive without it! One major reason we moved to Nebraska was because of the excellent healthcare options we could get for Annie.  I've seen other families struggle with such high costs for their special needs children, and we feel so humbled by the blessings we have here.  So this week, after seeing the cost of these IV meds each day, we've become yet again, so grateful for our blessings.  The Lord truly does provide and we are so grateful for Justin's wonderful employer, their generosity, and the wonderful blessings we have with two different insurance policies to help us meet all of Annie's needs and be able to give her the best care possible.
