Lexie's Speech Evaluation

Lexie has been discharged from early intervention services since last October when we felt like she was finally starting to catch up on some of her gross motor skills.  But recently we (and she) have gotten more and more frustrated with her inability to talk.  At 30 months old now, Lexie knows 20 words, although some of those are recognizable only to us, and she cannot put two words together.  I know she's always been a little slow, but also knowing that earlier intervention is more beneficial than just waiting it out, I decided to have her case worker come back with a speech therapist for another evaluation.

Lexie did great through an hour long, in-depth evaluation of all her skills: gross motor, fine motor, language, speech, congitive reasoning, problem solving, etc.  Based on how I saw her perform, and the fact that she only knows 20 words as a 2 1/2 year old, I think she is guaranteed qualification for services.  The speech therapist has to take the evaluation back to the office to score everything and determine results.  Then they will come back on July 1st to give us the results, let us know if she qualifies for services again (which I'm positive she will), and get our IFSP service plan written up.  Hopefully she can start making better progress communicating and everyone in our family can be much happier and less frustrated!

  1. I wish I had time to comment on each of the new posts. They are all so great! I'm glad you got to Utah. I really wish I could get to Texas to see my family. Your anniversary sounds blissful! So glad you two got away just the two of you! Thanks for all your help.
